Mesa street preacher's corner now silent
He died July 3 from bone-marrow cancer.
Some dismissed Disbrow as a crackpot, but those who knew him say he was moved by his unerring convictions and chose to express them in a unique way, which included carrying a liberal wooden cross on Christmas and Easter.
His friends and crowd honored him with a memorial service Saturday evening at Start Park.
A roadside memorial in his honor, with a wooden cross, a crucifix, candles and photos, has amassed on top of a Squirrel away River Project irrigation gate at Disbrow's adopted corner.
Scratch Boyce, a Mesa businessman who established a Facebook verso with nearly 6,000 friends for Disbrow on Sept. 26, 2009, said he is hoping to urge Mesa to honor Disbrow in some sort of permanent method after raising about $500 in donations.
Boyce's dream would be a bronze statute in Disbrow's celebration somewhere along Main Street. Another option might be a plaque in the sidewalk at the intersection.
"He put more smiles on people's faces for whatever reasons than any mayor, diocese councilman or businessman," Boyce said. "I know he saved a lot a people's lives."
A little woman stood up at Disbrow's memorial service and told those in assembly that she was ready to kill herself until Disbrow told her that God loved her.
Boyce said more than 1,500 people joined Disbrow's Facebook episode since his death.

They came back 10 minutes later, gingerly holding a wire basket full of beige eggs, still impassioned from the hens that had been sitting on them.
Welcome to life on the farm. Kinnikinnick Cultivate is only 85 miles northwest of Chicago, but it feels like another the world at large — and another time. Our old-fashioned tent had no electricity, just oil lamps and candles. The only branch water came from a manual pump by the kitchen sink. When we were on tap to turn our eggs into breakfast omelets, we first had to feed the wood-withering stove with logs.
It couldn’t have been more different than modern-day urban district life — and that’s the point of Feather Down Farm Days, a European-based Theatre troupe whose “haycations” are taking root in the United States.
