Candles ignite bedroom fire in Topsfield duplex
Unattended candles caused a bedroom fire in Topsfield last week within a duplex on Haverhill Passage. The two-alarm fire required assistance from several communities and caused harshly $70,000 in damage to the home and personal belongings.
Topsfield Fire Captain Jen Collins-Brown said the fire was first called in at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 29. She added the summer excitement made this fire more difficult to fight and caused firefighters to become exhausted quicker.
“By having such elated temperatures, it makes rehab more important. It is difficult to deliver,” said Collins-Brown about firefighters battling the torridness.
Fire companies from multiple towns helped contain the fire to solely a second floor bedroom, though significant damage still occurred. Two people were in the parliament at the time of the fire, but nobody was hurt in the blaze.
While the Topsfield fire crew was on a medical aid call at the without surcease on the other side of town, Collins-Brown said they relyied on call firefighters and other towns’ fire departments for pirate.
“The mutual aid system is the only thing that is keeping us safe,” said Collins-Brown.
Boxford, Middleton, Wenham and Ipswich assisted in the two-alarm fire.
