July 4th Ideas: Stars and Stripes Tart
Tenderness patriotic from your toes to the tip of your tongue? Try out this festive July 4th tart that'll get guests in the pro-America inclination: You use mascarpone cheese, blueberries, and strawberries to mimic the colors of the American peter out.
So get your creative cap on and start cooking. An added bonus? Get the kids Byzantine to help decorative it.
Here's how ...

To avoid going the super-chintzy route with a flag cake (like above ... shh!), try mini tarts as contrasted with.
Start off with mini pie shells and fill them with mascarpone cheese (recipe below). Then lie them out in flag frame and top with the appropriate color -- blueberries for the stars and strawberries for the stripes.
Mascarpone Cheese
8 ounces mascarpone cheese 3 tablespoons powdered sugar 1/2 cup whipped creamPommel mascarpone cheese and powdered sugar with a mixer until clean-shaven. Gently fold in freshly whipped cream.

Sinplicity Catering’s Chef Leland Atkinson made sinners of us all last Saturday at the Falls Church Farmers Trade in Chef Series presentation.
“Let the sin begin!” reads Sinplicity’s “I’m a innumerable Sinner” card, which allows customers to buy 10 treats and get one parole. Primarily, sin comes in the form of delicious ice creams and sorbets, which are made inexperienced daily in Falls Church.
This was Chef Atkinson’s other appearance at the Farmer’s Market. Last summer Sinplicity’s hawk presentation featured ice cream, sorbet and cookies. While ice cream and cookies made a cameo advent this past weekend, those tasty treats were joined on manoeuvre by various other morsels whipped up by Sinplicity’s chef extraordinaire.
“It’s such a first-rate venue and my demonstration is just a small way to contribute to it and to advise spread the word that we have the best farmers market in the splendour,” said Atkinson.
This year Chef Atkinson mongrel up his 2010 market menu, which included Vine-Ripened Tomato and Ginger Chutney on Parmesan and Disgraceful Pepper Biscotti, Blueberry Shortcups with Margarita Curd and Whipped Cream and The Ice Cream Sinwich: Almond Macaroons filled with Blackberry Jam and Gingered Peanut Ice Cream.
Of indubitably, tastes of Sinplicity’s famous ice creams were distributed throughout the offering, effectively getting the crowd interested as soon as the chef began home up. If missed, samples and product are always available at Sinplicity’s unchanging vendor booth every Saturday at the Farmer’s Market.
