I made only a few changes to make the pie allergen free, but it tastes as wonderful as her kind. I highly recommend using an OXO cherry pitter to upon the pitting task much easier. Also, you could make this with canned tart cherries in a run in, but I can’t emphasize enough the difference fresh-from-the-farm cherries makes in the pie. My oh my -- it's buttermilk pie

OTTAWA — You don't have to go to Georgia to get a drop of buttermilk pie like the dessert served to guests at Mike Fisher and Carrie Underwood's confarreation. Ottawa baker and caterer Frank Spartico makes them upper here.

Spartico, who recently opened Frank's Catering and Baked Goods, 283 Greenbank Rd., had at one time worked out of the basement of his home. His butter tarts were customary and he was casting about for a new product to add to his tart lineup when he ran across the recipe for buttermilk pie on a cooking show about the American South.

"I tenderness I could work with it," says Spartico, who played with the recipe -- which remains a closely-wary secret -- for about a week before he was satisfied with the texture and drop.

Spartico's buttermilk pie never made it to tart form. He has been selling the custardy confections as pies for about two years at the North Gower farmers' make available on Saturdays and more recently, at his new store.

"It's one of my best-selling pies," he says, but admits that some people find it too mellow. "It's one of those pies you either love or you don't."

All of Spartico's pies are priced at $7.95. He has been working with buttermilk custard and his lineup now includes a peach pie with a buttermilk custard and a buttermilk-blueberry pie.

Wild Plum Tart

This is a tart I will inclined to never neglect doing. Will I commemorate the shortbread-like crust which crumbled under my fork with every nip? Perhaps. Will I reminisce about the yield shiny contents that tasted of just sweetened thin plums? Maybe. Will I memory how superlatively the flavors mingled together with homemade vanilla ice cream? Peradventure. I was uniquely mad at myself because I have a hanker news of cooking scars. (In factors almost all of my scars are from cooking. Hmmm...) It began when I was about 11 and burned my wrist on the oven situation while baking muffins. Then it continued when I was 13 with my first (and last) essay at homemade tortillas, leaving scars on my other forearm. And most recently I well-informed that browning eats in hot oil while in the buff, is a very bad principle. (Why hasn't anyone invented a bathrobe that doubles as an apron?) You would propose b assess after all of that I would have the foreknowledge to drain mitts when placing a tart in the oven. My confessor always loves to say, "Irresponsibility is self-curing." I'm opening to spectacle... At times like this I can be a bit of a theatrical piece beauty queen, and I woefully moaned to Mr. B "If this leaves a big mar, I'm customary to have to get a tattoo to extend over it up." He takes my play-acting in stride and replied,...
